Bildunterschrift

The design of these signs is based on the system of isotypes (Interna-tional System of Typographic Picture Education). This was developed in 1925 by Otto Neurath who, as a Jew, fled from Vienna in 1934. Isotypes are used for public space and traffic and greatly simplify complex interconnections, making situations comprehensible at first glance. Originally, isotypes were intended to impart knowledge (about national economics) in an efficient, neutral and scientifically correct way. Today, isotypes are used by Islamophobic groups, especially in Western Europe, to draw attention to the supposed dangers of Islam. The signs produced by Akšamija react to this. They highlight Islam-ophobic movements and also warn against them, in the same way that traffic isotypes warn of potential dangerous situations in traffic.
