Favorite Objects I und II, 2020
Edda Strobl

Bildunterschrift

T-shirts and bags from her artistic environment were the first collected objects that the illustrator and co-author of Tonto Comics Edda Strobl drew for her constantly growing series Favorite Objects. The status perspective is important here: the various objects are all portrayed as the same size – a T-shirt the same size as a hammer or the page of a book. The artist is particularly interested in how industrially manufactured objects become personalised through their use, and how an unconscious accumulation of everyday objects turns into collecting when a focus of appropriation is placed on objects of the same category. The watercolours of the very personal collection objects, marked by time – which the artist (also) appropriates through painting – are equally portraits of the collectors themselves.
