HyCentA – Hydrogen Center Austria

Bildunterschrift

The Hydrogen Center Austria conducts research into the vision of a renewable energy system. Due to its versatility, hydrogen plays a key role. It can be used instead of fossil fuels in heating networks, conventional and innovative industrial processes as well as in interaction with electrical energy in mobility, in the home and in industry. Hydrogen is produced from water by electrolysis. It can be used in a fuel cell to drive an electric motor in a vehicle, for example, without producing exhaust gases. This has advantages in terms of weight, range and eco-balance compared to battery-powered e-cars, particularly important factors in public transport and goods transport. Hydrogen also plays a key role as energy and buffer storage in an electricity grid fed by renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and water power, as these are not always constantly available.
