Mobility pyramid

The mobility pyramid represents the distribution of different forms of mobility. Originally developed as an ideal image of personal mobility behaviour – vertically the various distance ranges, with the area showing the share of the means of transport used in total mobility – it has become the guiding principle of post-fossil mobility policy. It illustrates the importance of active mobility (walking and cycling) as the basis of future-oriented transport and urban planning.

Modal Split

Modal split describes the composition of transport in a city or region. It shows the modal shares of the individual modes of transport in the total number of journeys made. Data is usually collected for private motorised transport (PMT), public transport (PT), walking and cycling. The second graph shows the proportion of these modes of transport in the total area of public space available for stationary traffic.
