The posters and videos on this wall show various forms of social activism and protest in the field of environmental and social policy, civil, human and animal rights. Their objectives are conveyed via posters, banners and, increasingly in recent years, via social media. Sometimes initially informal associations form themselves into social movements, such as the women’s, LGBTIQ+ and Black Lives Matter movements. The examples here in the exhibition illustrate, on the one hand, the diversity of activisms. On the other hand, they also show how long it takes for a protest to become a movement and for social changes to follow. This is not always possible – non-Austrian citizens have no legal opportunity to register demonstrations and make their concerns heard in this way.
