Elke Auer combines sculptural and performative elements with language, drawing and painting. Her work addresses the constructed nature of gender identities and seeks to break down hierarchising, normative attributions. In the sculpture created for this exhibition, ‘structure’ and ‘agency’ as well as ‘dryness’ and ‘wetness’ come into relation with each other. As the ability to act and make free decisions, ‘agency’ encounters encrusted (social) struc-tures that limit our ability to act and define identities. Hard and soft, solid and malleable make the sculpture hybrid, and liquefy rigid narratives.
