The ‘woman from the countryside’ often features in films and literature. In FRAUEN * LIFE * LIVE, women from Murau speak for themselves. They talk about how they became who they are and ‘what they are doing to become who they want to be’. The murauerInnen (Murau women) have set themselves the aim of updating role models and the assumptions made about the countryside. As a cooperative networking project, ‘rural women’ connect and present their diverse work and interests beyond rigid conventions. To this end, they plan events, consciously use good design, current language and social media. Here, beyond the urban context, women (and sometimes men too) network in a very contemporary way, using humour to create an identification with the open, adaptable living environment of the ‘countryside’. #selfempowerment made in styria, baby.
