The title Haus im Grünen – house in green surroundings – is a reference to property market advertisements. Marianne Lang’s mixed media series, however, shows plants climbing up Styrian cultural and media buildings like a second skin, instead of the normal trees in front of the house. Whether the properties supposedly for sale are overgrown, conjuring up the ruins of a culture that will vanish in the future, or whether the plants are merely providing the buildings with picturesque protective shade in the increasingly hot climate, remains to be seen.
