This five-minute experimental film by the artist, curator and musician Eva Ursprung focuses on disturbing images such as flickering, colour shifts or image noise in old video recordings. Assembled into a compendium, the juxtaposition of the excerpts creates a musical, rhythmic piece in which unexpected forms are repeated, conjuring up the ‘ghost in the machine’. As a media artist and feminist networker (including co-editing the magazine Eva & Co.), Ursprung has been highlighting the qualities and pitfalls of growing human-machine interdependencies since the 1980s. In Ghost, she also explores the beauty of the hidden and unknown in the machine.
