Megaphon portraits of Ismail Osman, Zsolt Berki, Jude Idemudia, Valentine Agbi, 2021

Bildunterschrift

Megaphon is the Styrian street magazine. It reports on cultural events, social initiatives and the lives of people on the fringes of society. Among other things, it creates dignified portraits of people who are not part of the mainstream, of life as an asylum seeker, or of people with other difficulties and disadvantages. Megaphon is a Caritas initiative and part of the association of international street newspapers. For over 25 years now it has focused on work as the key to integration. The magazine gives people without a work permit meaningful employment and the opportunity to earn a (small) income for themselves. In turn, the presence of the Megaphon sellers on the street gives others an opportunity for low-threshold contact and to overcome prejudices. The Megaphon portraits on display here contain the subjects’ wishes for a good future. They are individual and at the same time universal.

With thanks to those portrayed, to Sabine Gollmann and the Megaphon team as well as the photographers Arno Friebes and Peter Pataki.
