Bildunterschrift

What does it look like when living space does not end at your front door? More and more people are attracted to community living and see it as a promising alternative for themselves and society. Community living projects are emerging as a result of rising property prices and growing ecological awareness, leading to joint action and the sharing of space, goods and work. The individualisation of lifestyles also calls for alternatives to ‘standard housing’. A number of pioneering projects were implemented in the Styrian Model from the 1970s on. The wohnlabor presents three current projects that share their collec-tive ownership and sociocratic form of organisation, but realise their vision through different legal and financial structures. They provide an insight into the emergence of collective housing and its spaces.
