Space Transformer / METAMORPHOSIS, from 2019
FGM-AMOR Austrian Mobility Research

Bildunterschrift

A Space Transformer is an adapted cargo bike that easily and legally transforms a car parking space into public space to be used by everyone. It encourages people to sit down, read, play, can be filled with plants, and inspires communication in the neighbourhood. Space Transformer was developed in Graz as part of the EU project METAMORPHOSIS. With a wide range of activities and interventions, the street space – for now monofunctional and disproportionately taken up by cars – could be turned back into a diverse living environment for everyone to use. For children especially, this urban open space is an important place from which, over the last 60 years, they have been displaced. METAMORPHOSIS partners from all over Europe worked with the creative concepts of ‘Tactical Urbanism’ to return the space to children and to all of us.
