The first One Minute Sculptures were created in 1997. They call on visitors to follow the artist’s sometimes absurd instructions – to put a bucket on their head, for example, or to balance pencils. Here, books by philosophers are clamped between the legs and arms while the visitor tries to hold their position for about 60 seconds. Delivered with a tongue-in-cheek humour, visitors are given the foundations of education and also a participatory experience in which they become an essential part of the work in front of others.
